ODIN:

On the day I met the witch, she prophesied my death.

She said it was fate and couldn’t be changed.

I’ve gathered my warriors. I’ve laid my traps. I’ve moved my pieces across the board.

She is the piece that unlocks everything, I know she is.

And she’s wrong. Everything can be changed.

FREYJA:

A powerful god seeks to destroy my people unless I go live with him.

“You don’t have to marry him. You don’t even have to sleep with him. He just needs a witch.”

I’ve been told this multiple times, but I don’t trust this man.

He’s keeping something very important from me… and he’s such a charmer.

I may allow him into my bed, but I can never let him into my heart.

Note: This is a standalone.

I don’t think I know the half of what this god actually is. But what is he to me? A captor? A lover? A worthy foe?

So when this dark cloaked figure shows up watching me like a freak at the foot of my bed in the middle of the night, I don’t think it’s completely crazy to think it might be Odin, but I’m still not sure.

“Odin?” He just nods. Though this doesn’t mean anything. Not really. Whoever this is could be lying. But how would they get past the wards of the castle?

I produce a fireball in my hand which illuminates the room further but doesn’t shed any more light on what I’m dealing with. “I swear, if you don’t speak to me I will set you on fire.”

He chuckles. And I let out a slow relieved breath and let the fire die in my hand. It is him. And even in this new terrifying guise, this settles me somehow.

“Relax, my dear, it’s only me.” “The Master of Illusion?” I snark back at him, my body heating at what happened only a few hours ago at dinner.

He just nods again. He’s loving this creepy, terrifying lord of the dead thing he’s got going on right now. I can’t decide if he wants to repel me or attract me. He’s such a contradiction.

He pulls back my blankets and nods. I think he’s going to start this unsettling silent lurking again, but he speaks. “I approve of your sleeping attire.”

Am I blushing? I do not blush. At least it’s mostly dark in here. I sleep naked, so of course he likes my sleeping attire. He moves closer, and a part of me wants to flee even though I know it’s him.

“Lie back down, and spread your legs.” “What? No.” My voice is almost indignant, like this is a completely absurd request from him.

“Blood contract,” is all he says in reply. “Two, in fact.” Yes, he really is going to remind me of this every time I challenge him. I hesitate again. “Scared?” he asks.

“You wish.” Yes, a little, but I’m not going to let him know this. Honestly this side of him is more disconcerting than the berserker. The berserker at least is something one can reasonably fight. This mysterious darkness? Not so much.

“If you do anything I don’t like, you’ll see my darker side,” I say. “I’ll be on my best behavior.” I sigh and lie back down, spreading my legs as requested. I want to say I don’t like this dark dominance, but it’s because I won’t let my guard down. I can’t trust him enough to let it down. But if I could trust him? A part of me would like it.

His dark hooded head moves between my legs, and I let out a sharp gasp when his tongue glides over my exposed flesh. The contact shocks me, even though it shouldn’t, even though I had some idea of his intentions.

“You better not be a skeleton under there.” He just chuckles again. “Do skeletons have tongues?” “No, but old men do. You better not be the old guy.”

“It’s just a form. I’m still me, Freyja. You, more than anyone, should know that.” “Yes, but when I agreed to be your little concubine, you were hot.” “Oh really? You think I’m hot?”

“I’m reserving judgment until I confirm you’re not gross under there.” I can practically hear the smirk as he continues to drive me crazy with his tongue.

His hands grip my thighs as he pulls me closer to him. Strong hands. Certainly not the frail grip of death. So maybe he is hot under there. Who can even tell with all that billowing dark fabric?

He raises one cloaked arm in the direction of the door and gestures. The door shuts, leaving us in darkness. I don’t know if this is better or worse. I jerk against him as two fingers push inside me. His other hand slides up over my belly to my breast and then down my arm until his fingers interlace with mine.

Such a contradiction. Dark god of death, driving me past madness with his tongue and holding my hand. I’ve never been so confused about my feelings for a man.

There are as many wonderful sides to them as there are terrible, and I can’t make checklists in my mind because my body is too busy responding to the wicked delights of his tongue.

“Stop thinking,” he growls. “Just let yourself have this.”

And that small bit of permission is all I need to fall over the edge and slip into a pleasure far sweeter than this dark god should be able to create. “Good girl,” he says as I moan and writhe against his demanding hungry mouth.

“Come apart for me so I can decide if I want to put you back together.”

"Freyja and Odin are so complex. Freyja is a goddess, a Queen, a powerful witch and so much more. She rules firmly and fairly. But there is a depth to her that I’m not even sure she was completely aware of. Odin, on the other hand, is a god, a king and a warrior. And he is running out of time.” – K. M. Ernst, Amazon
"Odin and Freyja are just the perfect couple.” -Denise DelFranco, Goodreads
"If anyone could pull this off, could do Odin and Freya’s story justice, it’s Kitty.” -Cecile Smith, Goodreads
"There is just something so engaging when a story, based on characters you know, is done so right! This is one of those stories, because while we ‘know’ Freyja and Odin, we don’t know them like this. These two have sizzling chemistry and explosive passion, and both those things make for some interesting encounters. They also connect on a cerebral level, they are both of the same ilk, and that causes some great clashes and some greater understanding.” – Dar, Goodreads
"Valkyrie is Odin and Freyja’s story. Their attraction is so magnetic and electrically charged!” -Tanya Rae, Goodreads
"…Freyja is not her typical heroine either. This is a strong heroine, an experienced woman who knows her worth and her strength. She’s powerful in her own right and can fight her own battles. To be honest, these types of heroines can be hit or miss for me, but I fell in love with Freyja. She is one of the more entertaining heroines I’ve read lately and I really enjoyed being in her head. Now Odin is on a completely different level. He’s a charmer and neither Freyja nor I seemed able to resist him for long. The level of heat between these too was outstanding. They were exceptionally well matched in every way. In addition to this enemies to lovers romance, there’s an intricate plot full of twists, turns, betrayals and redemption.” -Darkreads, Goodreads
